I've been thinking recently about why people choose to change and what, if anything, I can do to nudge people along the way. For example, potentially convincing some of the members of my church to support a renovation project to turn the gendered restrooms we have currently into all-gender restrooms.
I play Maya Angelou in my head: “when people know better, they do better.” Yeah, but on both a macro and a micro scale, it's really difficult to convince anyone they ought to know better, and therefore do better. The answer is, they have to choose to do both. I don't get to tell them.
The other idea that's been bouncing around in my head is “When the world changes, I change. When I change, the world changes.” With DHS disappearing people from my neighborhood this past week, I'm back to dancing with my role in creating a kinder, more caring, and more just world for myself, my family, my friends, my neighbors, and for the coming generations, including my kid’s. Change starts here, like you said, with small, daily decisions that are aligned with who I want to be. And it is heartening to remember that whether it's in my most intimate relationships or with those I've never met, my personal journey of change and growth does impact the world.

As always, thanks for sharing.
